Guyla white

At the age of 7, Guyla White began her dance journey after enrolling in the Spelman College Children’s Dance program where she trained in all facets of modern dance including ballet, jazz, and tap.

Guyla excelled in both dance and gymnastics throughout her childhood leading to a multitude of awards and recognition for her outstanding performances. Her talents in these arenas helped her land a number of theater roles in the greater Atlanta area and created a key opportunity to show off her saxophone acumen while performing in the opening ceremonies for the 1996 Olympic Summer games in Atlanta.

Nice, France would be Guyla’s first opportunity to show off her talents internationally, but it definitely would not be her last. Following her participation in the Nice Carnival, she had the good fortune to perform in the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day parade in New York City while simultaneously spending the majority of her time as a member of the startup Atlanta Jazz Band; Illusions.

As a healthcare administration major at Florida A&M University, Guyla served as President for the Mahogany Dance Theatre company. She also danced with the Orchesis Contemporary Dance Theatre of Florida A&M University, and in her junior year, she became a founding member of Essence Dance Theater where she served as Rehearsal Director. In Guyla’s downtime, she trained at the Tallahassee Ballet and coached the dance team at FAMU high school.

Following her graduation from college, Guyla continued her dance training at the Atlanta Ballet while gigging as a background dancer for music artists and celebrities.
